Timmy Dennison is a nine-year-old who is looking forward to celebrating his tenth birthday, and finishing his fourth-grade year in school. Life is good. He has a wonderful close-knit family. His Dad teaches at the town’s middle school. His Mom is a home maker who also volunteers at Timmy’s school, at their church, and in and around the community. Timmy’s older sister, Lindy, is a freshman in college, and his brother, Matt, is a junior in high school.

Timmy also enjoys a special relationship with his maternal grandparents who live close by and with whom he spends a considerable amount of time.

When an unexpected tragedy strikes the family, Timmy’s world is shattered. It is only through the unconditional love from his family and the grace from a faithful and loving God, that Timmy is able to re-build his world.

Ya Gotta Outmaneuver ‘Em

Timmy Dennison is a ten-year-old fifth-grader at Wynhope Elementary School. When twins, Jeff and Jess Billings move into town their lives quickly become entwined with Timmy and his activities.

Mistaken identity, false accusation, unfounded anticipation, new friends, forgiveness, and angels are all bound together in just a few weeks of Timmy’s young life.

Fortunately, Timmy’s family, including his Gram who lives just three houses away on the same street, is there to foster his faith and trust in God. Memories of his recently deceased Gramp offer young Timmy comfort and guidance as he negotiates the trials and tribulations of everyday living.

Along the way, Timmy makes a couple of assumptions that result in some huge mistakes. Thankfully he learns to let God arrange and re-arrange the puzzle pieces of his life. Join him as he and a faithful God put into action Gramp’s favorite advice, “Ya gotta outmaneuver ‘em.”

Tom Beaudin

Tom Beaudin was born and raised in Farmington, Connecticut, where strong family ties, a valued work ethic, and love of learning shaped the course of his life. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Fairfield University and shortly thereafter, completed a Master’s degree in Mathematics Education at the University of Bridgeport.

Tom devoted 36 years to teaching secondary mathematics, guiding generations of students with patience, clarity, and a deep commitment to respect for others. Inspiring generations of students to understand numbers and appreciate their beauty and logic was always Tom’s secondary goal. Often, when asked what he taught, Tom’s reply was the unexpected. Instead of saying, “Mathematics,” he would respond, “I teach students.”

During summers, he balanced classroom life with hands-on work in construction and home renovation—experience that further grounded his practical approach to problem-solving and expanded his understandings and capabilities. As an outdoorsman, he was an avid hunter for years, and was also a “gentleman farmer,” raising and processing animals on the family mini-farm.

In 1965, Tom married his wife Marlene, beginning a partnership that has spanned decades. Together they raised three children and now enjoy a growing family that includes eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren – each a new blessing and endless source of joy.

In retirement, Tom has combined his writing abilities with his strong Christian beliefs and authored four short novels – The Timmy Dennison series. His work reflects a lifetime of observation, a bit of creativity, and a desire to simplify, sometimes complicated theological issues, for the young mind.

FAQ

Q: What was the inspiration for the Timmy series?
A: As a Christian and as an educator, I had a desire to use stories to explore and simplify theological concepts.

Q: Are the books “stand alone” or must they be read in sequence?
A: The books are “stand alone.” Nevertheless they do have continuity of characters and evidence the chronological growth of Timmy Dennison.

Q: Is this series for youth or for adults?
A: Simply put, “Both.” My original intent was that the series would be meaningful for youth, and it has been. However, I have received a number of positive and encouraging comments from adults.

Q: What’s the origin of the Timmy series?
A: Years ago, I wrote a script for a Christmas event at Church. It was a dialogue between a young boy and his grandparents. After Christmas it was put away and forgotten. Several years later, a church member asked me whatever happened to the script. I resurected it and it became the basis for the first book, Timmy’s Spiritual Christmas.

Q: Do you really believe in angels?
A: Absolutely, I do. I further believe that at God’s request they visit the earth in human form.

Q: Just what is a miracle?
A: I couldn’t do better than Gram’s answer on pp. 4,5 of Timmy’s Spiritual Christmas.

Q: The Most Valuable Teammate, unlike the first three books, takes on a contemporary gender issue. Why did you do this?
A: In this book, Timmy is now in high school and confronted with more complex issues, one of which is gender dysphoria. In keeping with the expression of Christian values on contemporary issues, it was time.

Q: Is the series complete?
A: God hasn’t yet said to me, “You’re done.” However, marketing, sales, and costs just might tempt my publisher to say it.

Q: In Your Love Has Shown Me God’s Love, Gram attempts to explain to Timmy God’s sense of time. Tough concept. Is it appropriate for youth?
A: It is, indeed, a tough concept but absolutely appropriate for the growing spiritual mind. I’ll concede to C. S. Lewis who does a much better job of explanation.

Q: Is the Timmy series written from and/or for any particular denomination?
A: Aside from basic Christian Scriptural principles, there is no attempt to underscore any specific denomination.

Q: Would your books be appropriate for Jewish readers?
A: Christian living is appropriate for all Peoples. I suspect that any reader would enjoy the stories and grow in spiritual understanding.”
